Located south west of Sicily and not far from the coast of Tunisia, Pantelleria is an Italian island in the Mediterranean Sea.
Pantelleria island is around eighty two square kilometres in size making it the fourth largest island in Italy and has a main town which shares its name as well as a few smaller villages.
The island is striking and hilly and the countryside is dotted with domed lava stone construction white houses known as Dammuso, the architectural symbol of Pantelleria.
Pantelleria is noted for its sweet wines, Moscato di Pantelleria and Moscato Passito di Pantelleria, both made from the local grape.
It has a typical Mediterranean climate with hot summers and mild winters and like a lot of Italian islands it is busy in the summer season.
The short ferry crossing to Pantelleria is from Sicily.
